Pattern of work: Out-with school hours, 5 days over 7 including weekend working.

GSC offers secure care, close support & semi-independent living services; education service and health and wellbeing support for vulnerable children, young people & young adults 12 to 17 years of age.
GSC offers children, young people, and young adults a safe, nurturing, and caring environment set in fabulous grounds with a garden wildlife trail and outdoor sports facility.
An opportunity has arisen to join our Education team as a Outdoor Development Worker
on a full-time, term-time, permanent basis. The role is based at our GSC secure campus outside of Bishopton.
The Outdoor Development Worker will promote and uphold the vision and values of the Good Shepherd Centre (GSC) as a place of care, safety, and learning. Our purpose is to provide a positive, life changing experience for young people through individual care, education and skills development focused on promoting young people’s mental and emotional wellbeing and longer-term positive outcomes.
The Outdoor Development Worker will transform existing accessible courtyard spaces creating extra-curricular, multi-functional, curated spaces supporting wider achievement and providing young people and families with increased opportunities and choice for physical, social, recreational, and learning opportunities aligned to the UNCRC Rights of the Childhood. The Outdoor Development Worker will help to create a nurturing, stimulating outdoor environment, ensuring all activities are provided to a high standard and that an appropriate level of safety and security are maintained at all times.
The Outdoor Development Worker will engage with vulnerable young people to provide exciting and enjoyable ways to learn; providing opportunities and support to achieve their highest potential in outdoor activities leading to improved physical health and lifestyle choices. Through ensuring that the work is in keeping with legislative, procedural, and good practice requirements and guidance, the overall focus of the role is to transform outdoor learning spaces and deliver outdoor learning activities to young people, as extra-curricular activities out-with school hours. We are seeking to appoint a caring, child-centred, hard-working, and resilient individual with a motivation to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people. Whether you have experience working in social care or education, or are looking for a change in career, we would love to hear from you.
Through ensuring that the work is in keeping with legislative, procedural, and good practice requirements and guidance, the overall focus of the role is to build trusting relationships with young people within a nurturing, stimulating and safe environment. You will work as part of a team to support young people to meet their needs, achieve their goals and build hope for their future.
There is also a requirement to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) under the ‘Residential Child Care Workers’ category within the first six months of employment. This is a legal requirement within the Care sector for individuals to be registered under the correct category within the six-month timescale of the commencement of employment.
Relevant qualifications are not essential to start, however there is a requirement set by the SSSC to gain the relevant qualification/s within 5 years.

These posts are regulated work with children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
